This is the United Methodist Church, built c. 1869 with its annex on the left added in the 1890s. The porch of the parsonage is at the left. The original church, built in 1819 and later sold to the Baptists, was located in the northeast corner of the cemetery. Some of the money for the building was raised through a lottery or raffle. Among the many prizes offered were a 30-foot sailing yacht, a “fall top” carriage, and four gold hunting case watches. The crowd which attended on July 4, 1868, quickly exhausted the ladies’ picnic supplies. (Courtesy EHS.)
